Solstice Sunrise Cooler

California herbalist, gardener, cook, and artist, Sasha Emoniee, communes with the nourishment of nature and the power of plants in her everyday. Through her garden, kitchen, and apothecary, she connects with the abundance of the natural world and the ever changing seasons.

To honor and celebrate the beginning of the Summer season, Sasha created this Solstice Sunrise Cooler to energize and balance from within. Made with cooling herbs including lemon balm, tulsi, and rose petals, this recipe is rooted in bringing balance and centering to the body in this season. Summer is a beautiful opportunity for solar herb infusions (where herbs are placed in a jar of water outside and infuse in the sun) and we hope this recipe inspires you to harness the power of the season and sip in sunshine!

Ingredients:

- 24 oz (3 cups) of brewed herbal tea: 2 parts Lemon Balm or Lemon Verbena, 1 part Tulsi, 1 part Rose petals
- 1 oz Monfefo Ginger Shot
- lemon zest
- top with sparkling water (optional)

We recommend making this brew as a solar herbal infusion by placing the herbs in a jar, pouring water over them, and setting it in the sun in the morning to strain and drink in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can prepare a hot brew by placing herbs (lemon balm, tulsi, and rose petals) into a 24 oz mason jar with hot water and steep for at least 10 minutes. Strain herbs from liquid and place herbal infusion back into a 24 oz mason jar or pitcher. Pour in ginger shot and mix well. In a separate glass, place a few ice cubes and pour the herbal infusion over ice followed by lemon zest, fresh flowers, and optional sparkling water. Sip throughout your summer days to keep cool and energized!
