Our Roots

Monfefo was founded by Justine Monsul in 2013 in Brooklyn, NY.

Growing up in NJ, Justine's Mother Ewa, would always make her ginger tea with lemon and honey. She would slice up the root, let it simmer for 30-40 minutes and then add a glop of honey with lots of fresh lemon juice. It was amazing to see how a few simple ingredients can be so healing and nourishing.

After studying the culinary arts and psychology in school, she traveled and wwoofed on organic farms. It was in Hawaii working on a farm, where she cultivated the desire to create a wellness company that would aid people in feeling good like she had been raised to feel.

Monfefo's first batch was made in Justine's kitchen in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her first account was Organic Planet on Bedford Ave. She sold out after two days and soon enough she got her second account.

Monfefo has always been rooted in making a drink with a purpose. A drink that can elevate people on a significant level.

Monfefo is made in-house, in our certified organic factory. We work with sustainable farms from Peru and use only the highest quality organic produce. We are now found nationwide across America and have an amazing team that is dedicated to ensuring that every shot that leaves our space is made with detailed attention, care, and love.

Since the beginning, Monfefo's intention has been to craft truly conscious products. Being in the food industry, we take the responsibility in being as conscious as possible about our impact on this planet. Single-use plastic is a serious problem in the world, and this is something that we need to acknowledge. With that in mind, in 2019, we switched over from HPP’ing our plastic bottles to applying UV light and selling in glass. Since 2020, we have now switched over to completely plastic-free packaging.
